Start and Finish: 400m North West from Car Park.
Terrain: Burrough Hill stands 700 feet above sea level and is crowned by the remains of an Iron Age Hill Fort. Enjoy the lovely countryside views to the North. Burrough Hill has patches of open land, deep thickets, isolated trees and some forest areas. We have tried not to make the courses too hilly but it's not easy in a place with "Hill" in it's name! The Cattle can leave deep ruts on softer ground so be careful, especially on downhill sections. Cross-country shoes and gaiters are recommended.
Animals: Cattle and sheep may be in the open land around the hilltop. They are very docile, but please give a respectful distance
Course | Length | Climb | Controls | |
Long | 4.4km | 155m | 18 | For fast experienced orienteers | Medium | 2.8km | 110m | 13 | For slower experienced orienteers |
Short | 2.2km | 70m | 9 | For beginners |
Optional Challenge
No advanced entry. It is entirely optional for everybody. This map will NOT have Control Circles (other than Start and Finish) and the Control Descriptions will have the symbol and bearing. Remember from school, bearings are taken clockwise from North and given as a three-digit number (of degrees).
Bearings | 1.8km | 35m | 6 | For orienteers to practise using Bearings for careful navigation. |
Control Collection: Volunteers willing to collect in a few controls each after the courses close would be much appreciated.
