Event Format and Courses
All courses will be urban events. But both the Long and Medium will have a short section of classic woodland.
TrailO/PreO: Long and Medium ALSO incorporate a NOVELTY section - a hybrid interpretation of TrailO/PreO orienteering.
This means for a few controls you will not be trying to find a control but will be challenged to precisely determine which of a number of kites is the one shown on your map.
Prior to the Start there will be a full size PreO training area with a teacher to explain how and what you have to do. There will also be attendants at the Novelty area to remind you of the PreO task.
The results will be based on the usual Classic/Urban event total time taken, but for each of the PreO controls correctly identified you will get a time reduction from the total time taken. There will not be a time penalty for getting the PreO wrong.
Map: All course will have a 1:5000 scaled map. The Long and Medium courses will have a double-sided map with 1:5000 for the main part of the courses and the PreO controls will have a larger scale. Some new remapping has and is being undertaken, particularly for the PreO area.
| Course | OptimumLength Km | Climb m | No of Controls | |
| Long | 5.9 | 90 | 20 incl Pre-O | For fast experienced orienteers | Medium | 4.8 | 90 | 15 incl Pre-O | For slower experienced orienteers |
| Short | 2.9 | 35 | 7 | For beginners |
Control Collection: Volunteers willing to collect in a few controls each after the courses close would be much appreciated.
