It keeps you in touch with opportunities for juniors, recent successes and links to loads of practical information and tips.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019ve got questions, then don\u2019t worry \u2013 any orienteer (junior or adult) will be happy to help you at an event. They often take place at British Orienteering\nClub Coaching days. If you are under 14 a parent or guardian will have to stay\nwith you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">East Midlands\nJunior Orienteering Squad<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Are you\nsuccessfully completing the Light Green course?<br>\nThe next step is the Regional Squad. This is open to the whole of the East\nMidlands. Membership is by invitation. You\u2019ll need to be doing a Light Green or\nequivalent course regularly to join. The EMJOS organise training sessions,\nincluding weekends away all over the country so you can practice orienteering\nin different exciting types of terrain, giving you the chance to develop more\nadvanced technique skills. The atmosphere is very friendly, and you meet lots\nof new people who you can get on with remarkably well.<br>\nThe highlight of the year for the squad is the annual junior Inter-Regional\ncompetition (JIRC) for which a team is chosen (and you get to wear the EMJOS O top!).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<a name=\"competitions\"><\/a>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Competitions<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are courses suitable for juniors at all regular local club events\nas well as at regional and national events. Teams compete for the Peter Palmer Trophy and, for younger teams, the Joan George Trophy. There is also a daybreak relay if we can only field a small team. The club\u2019s best result was winning the Joan George Trophy in 2014 and 2015. Also third place in the 2015 Open competition.   <\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>Yvette Baker Trophy\/Shield   <\/strong><\/td><td>Yvette Baker Shield for juniors with 5 competitors to count. LEI juniors numbers mean we are one of the larger of the small clubs and in 2022 we competed in the YBS for the first time finishing 7th.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>CompassSport   Cup\/ Trophy   <\/strong><\/td><td>CompassSport Trophy for adults and juniors with best 13 positions to count. LEI is now one of the largest of the small clubs and in 2022 competed in the CST for the first time.<\/td><\/tr><tr><td><strong>British Schools Orienteering Championships <\/strong>  <\/td><td>For school-based teams, the annual BSOC provides a good level of competition for junior orienteers with a wide range of abilities in school   years 5 \u2013 13. More\ninformation can be found on the following link: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dofe.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>http:\/\/www.dofe.org<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Initial\ninterest or general enquiries should first be addressed to the club contact <!--<a href=\"&#109;&#x61;&#105;&#x6c;&#116;&#x6f;&#58;&#x6b;&#101;&#x76;&#105;&#x6e;&#64;&#x65;l&#x79;a&#x2e;c&#x6f;&#46;&#x75;k\">Kevin\nBradley<\/a>--><script type=\"text\/javascript\">\tmailprot('Kevin Bradley','in','elya.c','kev','o.uk');\t\/\/-->\t<\/script><\/p>\n\n\n\n<a name=\"safety\"><\/a>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Safety<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Safety &amp; Welfare Principles<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The club helps protect juniors\u2019 welfare and safety by ensuring that:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The people who run the sport are safe to be with.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We take all reasonable steps to ensure that juniors will be safe from other participants and strangers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The challenges set will be manageable so that juniors are able to find their way around the course.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>They are not likely to be injured. But if they are, there will be people and procedures in place to look after them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Individual\u2019s needs will be accommodated as far as possible within the nature of the sport.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The club therefore has safeguarding codes and policies which must be adhered to by all club members and officials. This includes DBS checks on coaches, safety risk assessments and first aid training.   See <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leioc.org.uk\/juniors\/safeguarding\/\">Safeguarding, Welfare and Safety<\/a> for more information about these.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leioc.org.uk\/wordpress\/safeguarding\/#welfare\">Club&#8217;s Welfare Officer<\/a> can be contacted if you have any concern about a juniors&#8217; welfare or safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Safety at an Event or Activity<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Planners of courses and activities follow rules and guidelines to provide courses or activities with different levels of challenge to meet different needs.  The organisers will give juniors and their parents information to understand the level of challenges offered.&nbsp; We then expect juniors and parents to follow our guidance when choosing which course is appropriate for their experience and abilities. If we consider anyone is taking undue risk, we may refuse to let them start on the course or activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The organisers keep track of every individual at every event or activity to ensure that they are accounted for.  They have procedures for finding and looking after lost children and for providing first aid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Special Needs and Medical Concerns<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Coaches will be able to discuss with participants and their parents any adaptations that can be made to activities, so that they are accessible for any special needs they may have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A \u2018Parental Consent and Medical Information Form\u2019 (see below) must be completed for each junior.
