We encourage you to raise any concerns you have or incidents you witness at the earliest opportunity to our Club Welfare Officer or British Orienteering\u2019s Lead Safeguarding Officer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leicestershire Orienteering Club is committed to the principles of Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults. The club Welfare Officer is always there if you need any support or would like any advice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further information about the national safeguarding standards and practices is available on <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.britishorienteering.org.uk\/safeguardingandsafety\" target=\"_blank\">British Orienteering\u2019s Safeguarding pages<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Bringing Children to Orienteering<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>The club&#8217;s policies and actions to ensure juniors&#8217; welfare and safety are set out on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leioc.org.uk\/wordpress\/juniors-page\/#safety\">Juniors&#8217; Page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a name=\"welfare\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Club Welfare Officer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Welfare Officer<\/strong> role is to safeguard young people and vulnerable adults by the promotion and implementation of the British Orienteering, O-Safe \u2013 Child Welfare Policy and Procedures at a club level (<a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"http:\/\/www.britishorienteering.org.uk\/keydocuments\" target=\"_blank\"> British Orienteering Key Documents<\/a>). She is also the first point of contact in the club for the reporting of concerns relating to the safety and welfare of children and vulnerable adults.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a name=\"report\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reporting&nbsp;a Safeguarding&nbsp;Concern or Incident<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>All reports are taken seriously and dealt with in a sensitive manner. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leioc.org.uk\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/LEI-Response-to-Safeguarding-concerns.pdf\">Response to Safeguarding Concerns PDF<\/a> gives advice on how to handle concerns that come to your attention. The <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.britishorienteering.org.uk\/safeguardingandsafety\" target=\"_blank\">British Orienteering website<\/a> also gives advice and a short video on responding to a safeguarding concern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a name=\"codes\"><\/a><strong>Reporting Forms<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to contacting the Club Welfare Officer or Lead Safeguarding Officer, there are a couple of forms you can also use to report a concern or incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>British Orienteering Quick Report Form<\/em><\/strong><em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>British Orienteering has introduced a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/forms.office.com\/Pages\/ResponsePage.aspx?id=TgiNCC4s50uEUTV3mi0mfNDKl-C1Bj5BrjHzE730mYVUODhVMENFU0JPSDBKU1I4UVBVRlZMTE1TQi4u\" target=\"_blank\">quick report form<\/a> which can be used to make immediate reports to the Lead Safeguarding Officer. This form is user friendly on mobile devices. On completion of this form the Lead Safeguarding Officer will follow up with you directly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Other Reporting Forms<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.britishorienteering.org.uk\/doc\/policies-and-guidance\/safeguarding\/incident-form-children\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Incident reporting form children and young people<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.britishorienteering.org.uk\/doc\/policies-and-guidance\/safeguarding\/incident-reporting-adults\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Incident reporting form adults<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.britishorienteering.org.uk\/doc\/policies-and-guidance\/safeguarding\/reporting-a-concern-form\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Reporting a concern report form<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you complete one of these forms, it will then need to be emailed to either the Club Welfare Officer or the Lead Safeguarding Officer as soon as possible.  If you need any advice on how to complete a form or what should you do if someone reports something to you, this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=6SvfRkaP0es&amp;t=2s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">short video<\/a> will help you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Codes of Conduct and Safeguarding Policies<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Codes of conduct have been established for club officials, participants and parents.  These must be followed by all participating in activities organised by  Leicestershire Orienteering Club or acting on behalf of the club. You can download the current <a rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.britishorienteering.org.uk\/document\/1ee0917fefe26c8fc00dd1bafa6e218f.pdf\/DBS%20Flow%20Diagram.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">The DBS Disclosure Process in England and Wales \u2013 Flow Diagram<\/a> pdf here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DBS from other organisations are acceptable if less than three years old and are of the equivalent level or higher. The Club Treasurer will reimburse the fee as long as this is agreed with the Development Co-ordinator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> <a name=\"data\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Privacy of Personal Data<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2020 Leicestershire Orienteering Club updated its policy on data protection and the rights of individuals to view and any data held about them. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leioc.org.uk\/wordpress\/lei_members\/Privacy%20Statement%20LEIOC%20Feb%202023.pdf\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.leioc.org.uk\/wordpress\/lei_members\/Privacy%20Statement%20LEIOC%20Feb%202023.pdf\">View or download the policy statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> <a name=\"event\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Event Safety<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Risk Assessments<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>The organiser of any orienteering event or activity compiles\na risk assessment of the event.&nbsp; This\ncovers all aspects of safety, the level and potential severity of each risk,\nthe action to be taken to mitigate the risk and who is responsible for ensuring\nthe action is taken.&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An example of a completed risk assessment form and a blank form can be downloaded from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leioc.org.uk\/members\/guides\/#risk\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.leioc.org.uk\/members\/guides\/#risk\">\u2018Guides and Forms\u2019<\/a> page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Stranger Danger<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>The risk assessment include risks from strangers, particularly in public access area. We take all reasonable steps to ensure that children will be safe from other participants and from strangers. We have had no reported incidents of children coming to any harm from strangers in public places whilst orienteering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>First Aid<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>There will be a trained first aider available at every event. The club\u2019s  policy is that all event organisers and coaches are first aid trained  and renew their certification every 3 years.
