Organiser's Comments

Thank you to all of you for coming to our event. I hope you all enjoyed your runs.

I am sorry that we ran short of light green maps and thank those of you who had to give up your maps so that others could use them.

I have emailed a pdf copy of the course to those people who requested them. If you haven't receievd a copy, please let me know.

The weather was kind to us and, combined with Graham's courses, allowed you to enjoy the Beacon at its best.

Thanks to Graham, Ernie and all the LEI members who helped on the day.

Planner's Comments

I hope you all enjoyed the post Christmas run around Beacon Hill this year. For a change we decided to start at the top car park and were lucky with the weather. Despite a cold beginning it wasn’t too cold by first start at 10:15. I kept the longer courses shorter than usual to cater for the post Christmas blues. The cold period in the last two to three weeks had managed to reduce the height of the undergrowth but it was still rather slow going in places. The area did throw up some interesting legs and I think some of the most straightforward turned out to be the most difficult on the ground.

I apologise to the people who had to give up their map to be recycled for other competitor's. Numbers on the Light Green course where almost 100% up on previous years. If you would like an electronic copy of the course then please don't hesitate in contacting me via the Members -> Committee page.

Controller's Comments

It was a privilege to be involved in such a well organised and well planned event attended by so many from not only the East Midlands Clubs but also further afield. The good attendance lead to an unforeseen need for more maps on Light Green than had been predicted - Graham had maps printed based on the average attendance at past League Events at Beacon Hill plus 15% - thanks to those competitors who handed over their map for others, I hope that you will take up the offer to receive another either by email or in the post. The only other occurrence on the day was the malicious moving by someone unknown of a control set on a clear path on the southern side of a wall bend to not only behind the wall on the northern side but also behind nearby barbed wire - until correctly replaced this must have been particularly unpleasant for youngsters and novices on the White and Yellow courses. To enable competitors to enjoy (hopefully the right word!) a variety of terrain a start in the western area was used but it also lead to extending the course lengths beyond the 'old' Guidelines though comments from competitors were almost exclusively about the map - several suggested it was time for a re-map of the area - and their enjoyment of the day - I suspect that the weather helped! Looking to the future with the new Event Structure and Event Guidelines A and B now in place and effective from 1st January 2010, it could be argued that rather than being a Level 3 Local Event, described in the new Guidelines as typically having up to four Colour Coded courses, the event that you all took part in would easily classify as a small sized Level 2 Regional Event with seven Colour Coded courses from White to Brown. A 'big thank you' to Iain and Barbara for their calm and methodical organising and to the helpers from LEI and to Graham for his planning - they certainly made my task as easy and as pleasant as possible.
