Controllers Comments

I had not visited Fineshade before agreeing to control, but had heard various comments about it which caused me a little concern. My first visit took me first to the superb forest around the finish and nowhere near the overgrown bits to give me my initial impressions which were favourable. Simon then planned good courses which mostly took you into the good bits, with the occasional choice left to you whether you went through or round the vegetation. My input was minimal, although with everything done in good time, there was opportunity to check and relax that everything was under control, making my job much easier. Some of the course times might seem a little long, but with small fields, that is more indicative of the runners entering on the day, rather than any fault with the courses. Even the promised gales held off, although the rain stayed away just long enough for only the very first starters to set off, but not finish, in the dry but everything had been set up before it started and I hadn’t been soaked before you all arrived.
