Planner’s Comments.

How do you plan an event where everything is fenced in? How do you manage when more of the park, even on the day of the event, is being fenced in? We also had to move some of the more challenging controls to protect the wildlife. I’m sure you all understood the compromises that had to be made to get the best out of this area. However the results show we managed to challenge most of you.

My thanks must go to Peter Hornsby who shadowed my first efforts and pointed me in the right direction (important when you’re orienteering) and to Mark Foxwell who organised this event. I hope you all enjoyed your morning out in this growing forest park.

Organiser’s comments

As a first time organiser, I was very grateful for advice and assistance in planning and on the day itself, so thank you again to all those who helped and offered to help on the day.

Although it would always be good to see a few more faces, I think the numbers were as expected for a low key event at the beginning of the school holidays. It was good to see a few newcomers to the sport as well as more experienced orienteers on the longer courses; I hope you get the bug!

The facilities at Sence and proximity of start, finish and registration helped immensely with the organisation of the event; and it was also good to have dry (if cool) weather on the day.

My final plea is to remember to punch clearly, at times the punching on stubs was difficult to decipher (particularly on the blue course!) My final thanks go to Simon for planning the courses; I hope you enjoyed them. I heard several complimentary remarks; again most of these were about the blue course.
