Controllers Comments

Although Outwoods is a small area it provides varied terrain and challenges for orienteers as comments from finishers testified. Unfortunately with limited space it was not possible to totally avoid the brambles, which spread faster than mappers, can keep up with. Simon made excellent use of the area and of e-punching to squeeze in the longer courses.

 We encountered 8 failures of e-punch boxes, 6 before the start and 2 during the event. Fortunately we had just enough spare boxes to replace these. The cause of the failures is yet to be identified. I hope those who encountered a dud box were not delayed. Thanks to Mike Napier’s software and advice we have ensured these technical hitches did not effect the results.

Organiser’s comments

Many thanks to all the helpers.  It makes organising a pleasure when each person takes charge of their job and makes such a success as the helpers at the Outwoods on Sunday did.  Thanks also to everyone who took part – an excellent turn out – I hope you enjoyed your runs.  Thank you to Simon for his interesting courses and Chris for his support.

Think on, helping is fun and rewarding (free run!).  Pick up the phone and volunteer for the next event or, better still, ring Andy Portsmouth and volunteer to organise an event.  If I can do it anybody can!
