The Run-In Results

As promised at the event, here are the results of a special type of orienteering competition, the run-in, rather in the format of the yellow vest in the Tour de France.

A well marked route out of the last control (106 the large depression) lead all courses to the finish. So the table is for all who ran the leg including those who mispunched or missed out some controls.

One brilliant performance on the night goes to James Smith who's run-in effort was 770% of his green course run, an amazing speed increase, or perhaps he didn't get lost on the way from the depression!

The winner of the run-in competition was Andrew Llewellyn who came both first and second as he went for a "jog" around the yellow course at the end of the evening.

So how fit are our top athletes? Well, the map-measured distance of the run in is getting on for 180m and the nearest standard distance athletic event is the 200m sprint. Taking the current world record at 200m (19.32 seconds) the run-in would have been done in 17.388 seconds (if Michael Johnson could have been persuaded to attend) and that doesn't allow for slowing down to dib at the end! Further slowing down orienteers was the climb out of the depression and the odd bit of vegetation to avoid! So 23 seconds is a world class time. Well done Andrew.

A special mention goes to Mark Sherriff who actually would have beaten any running record, as his dibber proved that he he visited the last controls in order but that his time for the last leg was minus 23 seconds; time travel is discovered at John's Lee!
