What is Orienteering
This link takes you to the British Orienteering Federation (BOF) website which contains a wealth of information about the sport (opens in a new window). [more]

I am interested in Orienteering for
Myself
Have a look at the BOF website and then either, choose a permanent course to try it out on your own when you like, or turn up at one of our events. Events are at weekends all year round and on weekday summer evenings from Easter to late Summer. - see the fixtures list
My children
All Leicestershire Orienteering Club (LEIOC) events are suitable for children.
During the summer evenings some areas are specially set up for juniors and coaching is normally provided.
During the winter weekends coaching is provided before a number of events - see the coaching programme.

My youth group
All LEIOC events are suitable for youth groups.
During the summer evenings some areas are specially set up for youth groups.
During the winter weekends coaching is provided before a number of events - see the coaching programme.
Please notify the Event organiser if you would like to bring a youth group to an event so that sufficient equipment and maps will be available.

Permanent Orienteering Courses are an ideal way to try orienteering at your own convenience or to suit your class, a number of parks and woodlands have courses.
My school/college
I am seeking to introduce competitive orienteering or I am seeking material to help me introduce Orienteering into the curriculum;

Orienteering is one of the eight Leicester Shire & Rutland FOCUS sports. Schools participating are expected to follow the National Competition Framework. (MS Word document)

Support to make Schools Partnerships self-managing is given though a combination of: British Orienteering, the Club and the County Competition Managers. Support includes a package involving teacher training, mapping of the school(s), purchase of equipment and help in setting up an initial competition for a series of events. The Club is also making use of school sites and in return will bring electronic timing for an evening competition.

If you are seeking curriculum material then the British Schools Orienteering Association provides a link to material.

Most new schools provide orienteering on the school site. Then think about using the club's Permanent Orienteering Courses which are an ideal way to try orienteering at your own convenience or to suit your class, a number of parks have courses. You will need to undertake your own risk assessment and for certain locations obtain permission from the landowner.
