Orienteering training is available for both children and adults on a number of school sites. They are run in term time outside of school hours.
Who are they for?
Most sessions focus on 'family' groups typically with children in Years 3 to 10 (age 8-14). All family groups must have a responsible adult, eg parent, childminder, grandparent, who will be expected to take part. These sessions are also suitable for adult novices.
Some sessions are restricted to school children only, these tend to be immediately after school.
How much does it cost?
The first two taster sessions are free and afterwards a small charge applies: Adults £2 children £1 per week. When & Where are they held?
Most sessions are held in the early evening and occasionally immediately after school or at lunchtime. What Equipment will I need?
You will need warm clothing in Autumn and Spring and footwear suitable for the school room and for the playing fields. When it's dark you will need a torch to read the map. Everything else will be provided. If you want to buy equipment, especially compasses, you are welcome to try out the club's loan compasses first during one of the sessions.Do I need to join the Orienteering club?
You do not need to join the orienteering club but many families find it is worth while and join after the first month. First year local family or senior membership is £4 and this entitles adults to a £2 reduction on other local orienteering event entry fees. How do I book?

Awards
Children can work towards British Schools Explorer Challenge awards - for details see http://www.leioc.org.uk/juniors/explorer.php
Adults and more experienced children may be more interested in the Racing and Navigation Challenge. For the more experienced there is a colour-coded award scheme, which is based on performance at colour coded orienteering events.
