Saturday 8 December 2018 Christmas Novelty Event (Download software before coming!)

Event Level: Local
Notes: Santa has decreed that this year’s event will take place at Castle Hill.
Fancy dress is required (or at the very least a very silly hat) No fancy dress, no presents on the 25th

Courses: They will be novel!

Technology moves on rapidly, and as orienteers we move with it, from pin cards to dibbers to contactless punching, Strava and Routegadget.
This year, we are going to use technology to exercise your creativity and test your spatial awareness. As well as finding controls around a course, you can win big bonus points by drawing Christmas-themed art with the GPS track of your run!

Bonus points will be given based on how good you can make your GPS artwork, using the themes shown by the tracks on the map. But watch out, features on the ground may make this difficult! In addition, there is a small area to improvise your own Christmas art with a shape of your choice.

GPS device: To participate in our mass Christmas artwork and win those bonus points, you need to have a means of recording a GPS track of your run, such that it can be viewed on a website (or downloaded to my PC) for judging at the post-event buffet.
If you can’t already do this, the easiest way is to download an app on to your smartphone – I would suggest Strava as the best, although Runkeeper is an alternative. I will also bring a couple of GPS watches to lend out if needed.

Or pen and paper! If you can’t manage to get some GPS tracking, bring a pen and draw your route on the map as you go round. I’ll be very trusting!

Santa will be around the course, if you meet him and ask him nicely he will give you a bonus dib for extra points!
