Thursday 21 June 2018 LEI Summer League 9 Burrough Hill

Event Level: Local

Summer League: midweek evening event

Terrain: Mainly open hillside around a bronze age fort with some wooded areas. Also some complex thickets and contour features.

Short Yellow/Orange standard
Medium Light Green/Short Green Standard
Long Green/Blue Standard

Planning Notes: The Medium and Long courses have been planned as middle distance style courses. The courses call for detailed navigation and frequent changes of direction as far as the terrain allows. The emphasis is on high speed orienteering where competitors will have to change their speed for sections of the course with different complexity. There will be a higher density of controls than for equivalent Long distance races, but there will also be route choice legs with multiple options. These courses should provide a different challenge than usual at Burrough Hill.
Burrough Hill poses a challenge for planning good short courses, but the Short course has been planned with young inexperienced orienteers in mind. Short course maps will be provided at registration, and young orienteers will have the courses explained to them if they wish.

Starts: will be close to the iron age fort to avoid a long path run at the start and finish.

Courses close: 8:15pm

Control Collection: Volunteers willing to collect in a few controls each after the courses close would be much appreciated.
